Our Story
Former Governor William Wills started Wills Insurance in 1915 in a small office near the main four corners of Bennington. In 1948, Peter Donavan Jr. moved his family to Bennington and began a long and successful career at Wills Insurance. His son Peter, a graduate of Middlebury College, joined him in 1965 and is still a key figure at Wills.
President David Newell, a graduate of Dickinson College and formerly the Director of Bennington’s Chamber of Commerce, began his Wills career in 1979.
In 2000, Kate Mahar, joined the sales team after graduating from Nazareth College and working for Nationwide Insurance Co. The following year Vice-President Corey Mears, a graduate of St. Michaels College, started his sales career at Wills.
The current Wills Insurance sales team is skillfully supported by a customer service staff with more than 100 years of combined insurance experience. Because of its staff and the many regional and national companies it represents, Wills Insurance is well positioned to meet the insurance needs of its several thousand customers.
